Eklavya is working with teachers and students of 400 residents schools for adivasi children run by the Tribal Development Department, Government of Maharashtra. This is an engagement of 3 and 1/2 years to improve the teaching-learning of science and to impact classroom transactions. Given the complex and interconnected issues involved, and the diverse and difficult field areas, Eklavya's team is looking for people who are willing to take up and grapple with these challenges. Research Assistant: 2 posts

Headquarter Location: Nasik,  Nagpur & Amravati Regions, Maharashtra

Work Geography: Districts in the respective zones 

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct teacher training at zone and cluster level about experimental learning at middle and high school level
  • Provide support for hands-on science kit, teaching and activities on components of the project via workshops and trainings
  • Conduct workshops for students
  • Establish contact with the community, ashram-shalas, teachers, students, panchayat representatives and other stakeholders
  • Coordinate with above stakeholders for academic support, leveraging local knowledge, collaborations, and developing new forums
  • Liaison with functionaries of ashram shalas, Tribal Development Department and other government agencies
  • Work with the community and out of school support initiative for students
  • Documentation, reporting and administrative tasks necessary for the initiative

Eligibility: Minimum qualification and desirables

  • Post-graduates with Science/Engineering background will be preferred. Bright graduates from science background can also apply
  • Candidate should possess interest and ability for hands-on experiential science learning in the context of elementary school science curriculum and textbooks.
  • Former training or experience in the field of education and science would be useful.
  • Candidate should have proficiency in verbal and written communications (must possess good command over English and Hindi). Knowledge of regional languages i.e. Marathi and other regional tribal languages will be useful.
  • Candidate shall be prepared to travel within the district as well as across neighboring districts regularly.
  • Candidates with some experience will be preferred.

Remuneration: Rs. 18,000 to Rs. 22,000 – health/accident insurance and other social securities are included. Final honorarium will be based on the qualifications, experience, initiative taking capabilities and other necessary skill sets.

Work Duration: Initially for one year. Can be extended after review.
