Location: Obaidullganj Block (Gauharganj Tehsil) of Raisen District

About the project:

Eklavya envisions the library-cum-reading initiative as a field-based model that attempts to create a ‘reading and exploration friendly environment’ in order to foster ‘reading habit’ and ‘inquisitiveness’ among the children and communities. Towards this a hub and spoke model to ensure large scale geographic coverage is proposed that will function at two levels:

  • The Chakmak Clubs, an informal library-cum-reading space, will be set up in the villages and will be anchored by middle school students who are identified and continuously oriented for the role. These Chakmak Clubs will be the ‘spokes’ reaching out to all the children/students in the village.
  • The Multi-disciplinary Learning Centers (MDLCs) that will act as the nodal centers or the ‘hub’ for 10-12 village level Chakmak Clubs. These will provide intensive resource support, capacity building opportunities and academic inputs facilitated by the Eklavya core team.
  • Ensure regular functioning of MDRC- Multi-Dimensional resource center, community library from Monday to Friday for at least 6-8 hours every day.
  • Making a weekly plan encompassing different elements of MDRC including regular sessions, guest sessions, field visits, etc.
  • Updating the stock register with a list of books, and equipment, developing a mechanism to make the community library functional and accessible.
  • Conduct regular subject-specific or thematic sessions for community members, teachers, youth, and children at MDRC.
  • Preparing lesson plans around different books, and facilitating activities with different stakeholders.
  • Planning guest sessions on different themes such as education, health, gender, agriculture, career possibilities, cyber security, etc. for different stakeholders.
  • Regular field visits to 4-5 Chakmak clubs, providing on-site support, demonstration to resource students.
  • Support resource students to prepare weekly, and monthly planning for Chakmak clubs, offering necessary resource material to them.
  • Attending capacity-building workshops, and monthly meetings at the Bhopal office.
  • Support in conducting various events for students Bal Mela, Kitabon ka Mela, etc.
  • Ensure regular documentation of different activities taking place at MDRC, maintaining a diary of field visits.
  • Maintaining different registers such as stock register, visit register, library register, planning register and daily diary, etc.
  • Provide onsite and off-site support to the project, as well as other Eklavya initiatives, as and when required.
